It's amazing Erica has any faith in God at all since she was abused first by Belize and then continues to be abused by the WT, who claims to represent the true God. They should be looking at the cross and thinking about the millstone around their own necks for stumbling Erica!

My father, the PO of a West Coast metropolitan area congregation, said that the elders in Othello handled this case improperly. LOL Then he said that the elders have received correspondence from Brooklyn that has put them under some pressure: "they are in the hot seat" and that the elders are "damned if they do and damned if they don't." My sister wouldn't talk about it at all. BTW, none of my JW extended family has viewed the Dateline program yet. Think my father taped it but hasn't had time to view. Told him he will hear lies about Bill and silentlambs. Don't know if he will believe what we told him as opposed to the urban legends in the making.

Animation graphics in the text field
by SEAKEN2001 ini know some of you are not going to appreciate this and it probably won't start a movement that will affect a change but it will make me feel better to rant.. i find it very distracting to have moving graphics in the field of text, where we are supposed to be reading.
perhaps many of you are used to listening to the radio while studying for a test, as i have often seen depicted on tv, presumably in humor.
it may be humorous but it is not conducive to actual retention and meaningful meditation.

And yes, those jumpy animations can cause some problems, but I'm tired of being a drone! give me some color! give me something fun to look at! amuse me! Mrs R

Persecuted for righteousness sake. Hmmmm. "The Christian, however, must be certain that what he suffers is really for a righteous cause." Insight on the Scriptures, Volume 2 page 610. This paragraph also cites 1 Peter 2:11,12 about maintaining our "conduct find among the nations, that, in the thing in which they are speaking against you as evildoers, they may as a result of your fine works of which they are eye witnesses glorify God in the day for his inspection." Since when is child molesting righteous? Secular courts have had enough evidence to convict the accused. So these ones do not fit the scriptural definition of 'persecuted for righteousness sake.' What of the Watchtower Society itself? If their policy and procedure for handling pedophiles allows reproach to come on the Organization is this 'persecution for righteousness sake'? I don't think so. The bottom line is still what would be the loving thing to do? Is it loving to ignore innocent children? If handled properly, an accusation of child molestation need not become public knowledge until the point that there is proof and yet the child's welfare is protected, reputations are not soiled. But the proper authorities need to be allowed to investigate. Bill Bowen and Barbara Anderson should be applauded for trying to initiate a change in policy. Wouldn't it be a good idea for loving shepherds, which is what the elders are supposed to be, to receive training to handle these matters? Isn't that what Jehovah and Jesus would want? How many more will be stumbled because those placed in positions of authority within Jehovah's Witnesses have mistreated the flock. Who are really bringing reproach on God's name? Hmmmm......

They acted without 2 witnesses
by Sirona ini've only just been told of a case of suspected child abuse at the local hall.. the child (aged 4) was alone with the abuser.
she told her mother, who told the elders.
the elders and mother immediately informed the police, despite the fact that there was only one witness - the child.. then the elders proceeded to inform families in the congregation so that they can be on their guard.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to ask people who are already mandatory reporters how reporting works? Teachers, counselors, doctors, etc. are already mandatory reporters. There are laws protecting this confidential information from the public. So if a person is accused the only people who know are the investigators and the victim (the victim's family). Usually, at least in my little area of the world, there is an investigative team of law enforcement and mental health professionals who persons who have received years training..sometimes a guardian is appointed to advocate for the child victim. None of this becomes public unless there is sufficient evidence to bring the matter to court and charges are filed. These cases are very, very, very difficult to bring to trial. BTW, for mandatory reports working in mental health, the penalties for breaching confidentiality (releasing information to people not involved in the investigation) are in the thousands of dollars and possible jail time. And yes, I know that JW elders have trouble keeping things confidential.

Barbara Anderson Disfellowshipped
by silentlambs inas of 1 pm today barb anderson was notified that she has been disfellowshipped in writing by the judicial committee in her congregation.
barb was df in absentia at a second hearing that was declared after she successfully defended herself against charges in the first hearing.
home office came back with further instructions to make it stick the second time around.

Barb - I work at a mental health clinic that provides services to victims of sexual assault. I have been keeping all the counselors and administrators informed of the silent lambs issue. They will all be tuned in to tonight's program. I e-mailed them the Dateline e-mail announcement for tonight's program with the following introduction:
"I think we are taping this if anyone misses it. This is big disturbing news for the JW community. Many loyal to the Watchtower hold that the people being interviewed are "apostates" or anti-Jehovah's Witness. I have met many of the people covered in this story. They are not evil. I am risking my own relationship with family and a few friends by being vocal about this issue. But I feel that protecting children is more important. Thank you for your support."
